Charlottetown, PE - June 15, 2009 - Baseline Business Geographics Inc. is pleased to announce that Bell Aliant’s Emergency Response Centre (ERC) application, developed by Baseline Business Geographics, was honored by the Information Technology Association of PEI with the Technology Application of the Year award at ITAP’s 2009 Gala Awards Dinner. This award is presented to a company for using technology in smart, innovative and creative ways to enhance their business and meet business objectives.
About the ERC Application
When an emergency hits and the region's communications infrastructure is damaged, it is essential that communications are maintained or restored as quickly as possible. In the event of an emergency, such as Hurricane Juan, Bell Aliant establishes an emergency response centre where they monitor the key elements of their system. In emergencies where power outages occur and damage to outside plant occurs, the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) is responsible for dispatching trucks and personnel and generators to ensure that their network stays up and running.
The ERC application enables them to assign, track and manage the status of the key sites, their trucks, staff and generators. ERC staff is able to track whether or not sites have electricity or whether they are running on battery power or generators. The ERC application allows them to view their affected region and view the status of each site on a map. They are able to tell by the thematic shading of the site, what its status is. Similarly they are also able to tell when staff need to be sent home or to a hotel to rest and where and when their generators have been assigned. The ERC database also provides valuable information to ERC staff regarding refueling of generators and snow clearing around the sites when necessary. The system also easily allows them to provide up to the minute reporting to senior management. The system was developed by Baseline Business Geographics using Microsoft Visual Studio .Net and MapXtreme 2008.
