Vertical Mapper

Dynamic Duo

Enhance geographic data analysis and visualization in MapInfo with the power of grids. The Dynamic Duo of Vertical Mapper working seamlessly within MapInfo can display your data and analyze trends over large areas like never before. Whether it's income data or pollutant distribution, turning point observations into a continuous gridded surface provides the user with the analytical power to compare and relate multiple map layers. Create stunning visual images of a grid surface by applying gradient colour palettes to the range of grid values. Use Vertical Mapper to visualize elevation, show the distribution of wealth across a city, optimize the location of broadcast towers, analyze health issues, model environmental information and much, much more.

Vertical Mapper

Vertical Mapper is a grid-based contouring, modeling and display system that transforms point data into a continuous surface. Mapping your data as a continuous surface allows many enhanced query and analysis options. Whether it's income data, crime statistics, elevation readings or pollutant distribution, turning your point observations into a smart-raster map provides the user with both a visual image and the analytical power to compare and relate multiple map layers.

Smart-raster Map Analysis

The data held in Vertical Mapper raster-grid files can be queried just as in any other MapInfo file. Update columns in browser tables by inspecting points or regions that overlie your raster maps. Mathematical operations can be performed on a single or multiple grids.

Produce New Polygon Files

Contour lines or complex regions can be generated from any smart-raster file, allowing you to convert back to MapInfo polygon format with attributes attached to each polygon.

Other Features Include:

  • 3D rendering of grid surfaces
  • Symbol plotting
  • Custom linetypes
  • Natural neighborhood (Voronoi) diagrams
  • Point aggregation
  • Grid trimming/combining
  • Cross sections

Applications

Operating seamlessly within MapInfo, Vertical Mapper provides new mapping solutions for business, marketing, agriculture, telecommunications and natural resource professionals.

System Requirements

Works with any system running MapInfo 3.0x or 4.0 for Windows.

The Evolution of Vertical Mapper

Vertical Mapper release 3.0 includes new functionality and enhancements that help users leverage location-based information. Key features include:

Predictive Analysis Tool

The Predictive Analysis tool will automatically identify areas with statistically similar attributes based on a user-defined test location. For example, the tool can suggest the best locations for additional retail outlets from the selection of an existing high-volume location.

Point Density

Users are given two methods to derive point density, either by square area or kernel smoothing. which indicates the probability of an event recurring in an area.

Correlation Tool

Users can determine relationships between data sets and view the results in tables. This can help users select representative data sets for quicker analysis. Three different options are offered:

  • Correlation matrix will display the statistical relationship between input grids
  • Grouper function will group statistically similar grids
  • Principle component analysis provides analysis of the variance between all grids

Custom Point Estimation

Users can specify the calculation to be executed on a set of points within a specified radius. The user may select from the following types of calculations:

  • Sum of Values
  • Minimum Value
  • Maximum Value
  • Average Value
  • Count of Data Points

GRC Reclass

GRC Reclass allows users to modify the class structure of a .GRC file, such as changing class names or merging classes with similar characteristics.
